Germany’s economy shrinks unexpectedly<\/h2>\n<\/header>\n

Newsflash: Germany\u2019s economy is back on the brink of recession.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Germany\u2019s GDP shrank by 0.1% in the second quarter of this year, new data from statistics body Destatis shows.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s a blow to Berlin\u2019s government, which has been hit by an ailing train network<\/a>, the surge in energy prices after Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, protests by farmers<\/a>, weaker demand from China<\/a>, and a rise in support for far-right politicians<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Economists had expected growth of 0.1% in the quarter.<\/p>\n
